54. Benjamin CUMMINS

Died at age 96.

Lydia Cummins was the daughter of Benjamin Cummins, who way back in the last century, was the teller in the bank that stood where the residence of C.B. Doty now stands, and who died at the age of 96, his wife being at the time of her death about 92. Mrs. Barr was born in Steubenville. She was the youngest and last surviving child of a large family who were noted for their longevity, all having passed their 75th year and upwards.

56. Reverend Jonas PERKINS

Jonas gra. B.U. [Brown University] 1813, m. Rhoda, D. of Simeon Keith, 1815 and settled in the ministry at Braintree.

Rev. Jonas PERKINS - An Orthodox clergyman, born in North Bridgewater, Mass., October 15th 1790.

He graduated at Brown Universary in 1813, became Minister of Weymouth Union Church in East Braintree from 1815 to 1860.

He had a park named after him.

This land to the north of Stetson Street, bordering on Liberty, became the property of the Rev. Jonas Perkins. He was the pastor of the Weymouth and Braintree Congregational church for many years. When the town of Braintree widened Union Street at the corner of Liberty, they took off a corner of Jonas Perkins' barn. As a boy I remember perfectly that that was an outrageous thing to do, in the interest of economy.

He is buried in Village Cemetery at the landing.

PROBATE: Jonas PERKINS of Braintree, clergyman, made his will 28 Sept 1863.          Therein he mentions his son Sidney, who is to have his library, and his children Josiah, Jonas, and Rhoda and their Aunt Martha K. Reed, his wife Rhoda K. PERKINS, his son Josiah to have a staff transmitted from my grandfather Josiah PERKINS to my uncle Mark PERKINS and from him to me, to be transmitted to some descendant of the name PERKINS, Jonas, son of my son Nahum PERKINS. Proved 28 Dec. 1874. On that date          his heirs were Jonas R. PERKINS of Brockton, and Rhoda K. PERKINS, widow, and his children Martha B. Loud, widow, of Braintree, Josiah PERKINS of Weymouth, Nahum S. C. PERKINS of Norwalk, Ohio, Rhoda K. PORTER, wife of Joseph W. of Burlington. Me., and Sidney K. B. PERKINS of Glover, VT.; Norfolk Probate, 14300.
